PREVIEW: Men’s Hockey to Kickoff Peters Cup Playoffs with Familiar Foe

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team will play its first round Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Peters Cup playoff games this weekend against their rival, University of Wisconsin-Superior. The Yellowjackets are the No. 2 seed coming into the playoffs with the Saints holding down the No. 7 seed.

Game Times:
Friday @ UW-Superior – 7:05 p.m.
Saturday @ UW-Superior – 7 p.m.

TICKETS - can be pre-ordered this week and waiting for you at Wessman in the WILL CALL booth.
Prices are: $10 for adults $7 for Students, Seniors and Children - ALL tickets must be pre-paid.
Gates will open at 5 p.m. and games start at 7:05 p.m.

The Saints fell to both the University of Wisconsin-Superior and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire last weekend to end the regular season. The Saints were outscored 7-1 on the weekend.

St. Scholastica Saints (9-15-1, 4-14-0 NCHA)
CSS and UWS will be meeting in the NCHA Peters Cup quarterfinals for the fifth time in the last seven season and for the second straight year … The Saints have won the last two by way of the mini game … The Saints will be entering the Peters Cup on a five-game losing streak … The Saints are 1-2 on the year against the Yellowjackets, but their lone win against Superior came earlier in the year when our Bridge Battle rival was ranked No. 15 in the country and the Saints defeated them by a score of 3-1 … CSS is outscoring its opponents in the final period 30-27, but are being outscored 39-14 in the second … This weekend's games could be the last for the two seniors in Saints uniforms, #Riley Riddell# and #Neil Sauter#. Riddell leads the team in point with 23 via five goals and 18 assists … Those 23 points puts Riddell in third place overall in the NCHA and first overall in assists … Sauter has nine total points via two goals and seven assists … #Carter Davis# and #Jeremy Dawes# are the team leaders in goals with nine apiece … #Brennan Poderzay# and #Patrick Sullivan# have split time in net this year with Poderzay getting a majority of minutes of late … The duo has combined for a 3.66 goals against average.

UW-Superior Yellowjackets (13-11-1, 10-8-0 NCHA)
The Yellowjackets have clinched the two seed with their split in the final games of the regular season last weekend … The Yellowjackets have lost six of their last seven games with their only win coming this past weekend vs. the Saints … Superior has lost four of the seven games by shutout and four by one goal … Superior has yet to score a goal on its new ice that was put down at Wessman Arena in the middle of the season … In the three games on the new ice, the Yellowjackets have been outscored 5-0 … The 'Jackets are led by Justin Faryna with a team-high 11 goals to go along with 10 assists for 21 points … Talon Berlando also has 21 points and leads the team with 13 assists … Drew Strandberg has seen the majority of minutes in goal for UWS and has a 2.30 goals-against-average … Superior is ranked first in the conference in fewest penalty minutes (318).

Last Meeting: (All-Time vs. UW-Superior: 33-74-7)
The Saints and Yellowjackets resumed their battle this past weekend with the 'Jackets coming out on top 4-1. Jeremy Dawes (Winnipeg, Manitoba/College Jeanne Suave (Portage-MJHL) ) netted an early goal 56 seconds into the game, but Superior would go on to score four unanswered goals to earn the victory.
