DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team scored seven unanswered goals, including five from the Waidacher sisters in a 7-1 victory over Finlandia University on Friday night at Mars Lakeview Arena.
The Saints would pepper Finlandia goaltender Ashley Pavlish with 23 shots in the first period, but would still trail 1-0 at the first intermission. The Lions' Nancy Crossman scored a power-play goal with 41 seconds left in the period to put Finlandia up.
From there on out it was all Saints with
Monika Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftsschule KV Chur (Swiss National Team)) scoring her first goal of the night 55 seconds into the second period to tie the game at 1-1.
Brenna Flatley (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS) had the assist.
Malin Zetterberg (Stockholm, Sweden/Huddinge Gymnasium) added her first collegiate goal with a power-play tally with eight minutes left in the period.
Jordy Klimek (Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) had the assist.
CSS made it 3-1, 32 seconds later on

Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) had the assist. She quickly added her first collegiate hat trick with five minutes left in the period to make it 4-1 at the second intermission. Waidacher's hat trick is the second in the program's brief history.
In the third period,
Nina Waidacher (Arosa, Switzerland/Wirtschaftschule KV Chur (ZSC Lions/Swiss U18 National)) scored back-to-back goals to extend the lead to 6-1 and then
Courtney Esse (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS (UW-Superior)) added her second collegiate goal and first as a Saint to make the final score 7-1. The seven goals are the most scored in the team's first 30 games.
CSS outshot Finlandia 61-11 in the game with 61 also being a program-best. The Saints converted a program-high three power-plays in the victory.
Sheridan Friesen (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Ontario Hockey Academy) made 10 saves to earn her second win of the season for St. Scholastica. Pavlish made 54 saves in the loss for the Lions (0-6-1, 0-3-0 NCHA).
The Saints (3-2-0, 3-2-0 NCHA) and Lions will conclude their weekend series tomorrow afternoon at Mars Lakeview Arena. The puck is scheduled to drop at 2 p.m. and can be seen live at csssaints.com.
