DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team played Concordia-Moorhead to a 1-1 tie until the 89th minute, when the Cobbers scored a last-minute goal to take an early lead in the Advantage Emblem Cup Tournament standings on Friday evening.

The Cobbers started off the scoring in the 12th minute as Jared Rice put one in the back of the net to put the Cobbers up 1-0.

The Saints scored their first goal of the season late in the first half, as #Ben Wallace# (Fr.-Glasgow, Scotland) slipped one past the Cobber's goalkeeper in the 42nd minute, with assists from #Toby Peter# (Sr.-Spalt, Germany) and #Dustin James# (Sr.-Superior, Wis.).

The two teams continued to attack the net on both ends, and they had their opportunities – a combined five shots rebounded off the crossbar, including two in a row for the Cobbers halfway through the second frame.

Just as the game appeared to be headed into overtime, the Cobbers were able to slip another goal past the Saints defense with just 53 seconds remaining in regulation to take a 2-1 lead. Philip Bruckbauer had the score, with an assist by Riley McGlynn.

#Sam Reed# (Jr.-Eastbourne, England) looked strong in net, making three saves, while his netminding opponent, Peter Runquist, stopped 11 St. Scholastica shots to keep the Cobbers in the game.

Concordia-Moorhead now has eight points and leads the Advantage Emblem Cup standings on the men's side. CSS, who falls to 0-2-0 on the year, earned one point in the standings. Northland and Gustavus Adolphus will see their first action tomorrow afternoon.

CSS will be in action next in the Advantage Emblem Cup on Sunday when it faces Gustavus Adolphus at 2:30 p.m. at Saints Field.
