DULUTH, Minn. – The Saints men's and women's soccer teams started their seasons with four straight matches against teams from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, but Tuesday, they begin Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play, taking on conference rival Northland College in Ashland, Wis.

The Saints continue to eke out just enough offense for a victory, as goalkeeper #Sam Reed# earned his second straight shutout on Saturday afternoon over Carleton … As winners of four of the last six UMAC regular season championships, the veteran-loaded CSS Saints were picked to win the UMAC again in 2010 … #Toby Peter# continues to rise up the all-time ranks for CSS as he earned another point on Saturday with an assist against Carleton. Peter leads the team with four points via a goal and two assists so far on the season, but #Dustin James# is not far behind with three points on a goal and an assist … Opponents have out-shot CSS 37-32 on the season, but thanks to Reed and the Saints strong defense, CSS has outscored its opponents 4-3.
Northland LumberJacks (1-3-0, 0-0-0 UMAC)
After competing in Duluth at the St. Scholastica-hosted Advantage Emblem Cup tournament, the 'Jacks will play host to CSS on Tuesday afternoon. Northland went 0-2 in the Cup, allowing a season-high nine goals against Concordia-Moorhead on Sept. 5 … The LumberJacks were picked to finish eighth in the UMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, released August 31 … Three players lead the 'Jacks offensively – Matt Lamb, Ben Nicholes, and Ryan Pageau each have one goal to lead with two points … Matt Larsen has started every game in net for Northland, allowing 11 goals while making 36 saves for a 3.06 GAA … Northland has allowed 52 shots on goal and 76 total shots on the season.

Northland was picked to finished fourth in the UMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll this season, but did receive one first-place vote … Emily Knudson leads the Jills offensively, with four points via a goal and two assists in Northland's season-opening victory over Finlandia … Jessica Jaekel and Sarah Weed have split time equally in net for Northland, combining for a 3.25 GAA and 35 saves … Opponents have out-shot Northland 80-43 overall and 48-30 in on-target shots.
