ASHLAND, Wis. – The St. Scholastica softball team won its second straight game against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a 3-2 victory this evening at LumberJill Field on the campus of Northland College.
The Saints improve to .500 on the year at 10-10, while the Blugolds fall to 9-15 overall. Eau Claire defeated Northland in the previous game 5-1 today. CSS defeated the Blugolds in the second game of a doubleheader last season at Kenwood Field 3-1.
After Eau Claire got a run in the top of the first, the Saints responded with two runs in the bottom half on a #Bonnie Kowalczyk# (
Fr.-Menomonee Falls, Wis.) two-out, two-RBI double to make it 2-1.
The Blugolds would strand the bases loaded in the top of the fourth and the Saints capitalized in the bottom half when #Rachel Perushek# (
Jr.-Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) scored on a #Jen Falk# (
Jr.-Altona, Man.) groundout to extend it to 3-1.
Eau Claire cut into the lead in the top of the fifth with a run to make it 3-2. The Saints stranded the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, but Falk shut the door in the top of the seventh sitting the Blugolds down in order to make the final score 3-2 CSS.
Falk had five strikeouts and scattered six hits to win her fourth decision this season. Five different Saints had a hit for the CSS offense.
The Saints will be back in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action tomorrow when they travel to face Northwestern College for a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
