TUCSON, Ariz. – The St. Scholastica softball team went 1-1 for the second straight day at the Tucson Invitational Games on Thursday, defeating Dickinson College (Pa.) 3-1 and falling to Schreiner University (Texas) 2-1.

The Saints fall to 3-7 overall and three of their last four losses have been by two runs or less.

In the opener against Dickinson College, CSS pitcher #Darcy Roach# (Fr.-East Grand Forks, Minn./Sacred Heart) struck out 10 and allowed just four hits to earn her first collegiate victory with the complete game.

The Saints gave her some run support in the top of the first as #Shannen Schmidt# (Fr.-De Pere, Wis.) had a RBI-single to plate #Kali Carlson# (So.-Duluth, Minn./Central) to make it 1-0. #Bonnie Kowalczyk# (Fr.-Menomonee Falls, Wis.) scored on a Dickinson error in the second to extend the lead to 2-0.

After Dickinson cut the lead to 2-1 in the third, the Saints got that run back in the fourth on a #Brittni Johnson# (Jr.-Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) RBI-double to make it 3-1. The Red Devils would just have one runner reach second base the rest of the way as the Saints prevailed 3-1.

Roach also helped herself at the plate, going to 2-for-3 with a run scored. Liz Barry had the loss for the Red Devils.

The Saints suffered a tough setback in the second game of the day as they allowed just two hits in the contest, but fell by a 2-1 score.

The Mountaineers lone runs of the game came in the bottom of the fifth when they took advantage of two CSS errors to take a 2-0 lead. #Kayla Jenkins# (Jr.-Esko, Minn.) singled in a run in the seventh to make the final margin 2-1.

#Jen Falk# (Jr.-Altona, Man.) picked up the loss for the Saints, allowing just two hits and striking out two. Allyson Morris scattered eight hits to earn the win for Schreiner.
