DULUTH, Minn. – The time has come and after 18 months since the announcement was made that the College of St. Scholastica would be adding a varsity women's hockey program, the Saints will be taking to the ice on Friday night for their first-ever game against Augsburg College at Mars Lakeview Arena.

Friday vs. Augsburg – 7:00 p.m. (Pre-game festivities start at 6:45 p.m.)
Sunday vs. Concordia-Moorhead – 2 p.m.

St. Scholastica Saints
Former Buffalo High School (Minn.) standout and Wisconsin Badger #Jackie MacMillan# will guide the Saints in their inaugural season … MacMillan was the head coach at New England College for three seasons, leading the Pilgrims to the ECAC East Championship game for just the second time in the program's history … MacMillan won a total of 31 games at New England … Minnesota-Duluth transplant #Libby Guzzo# will be the team's captain in her lone season with the Saints … Her former UMD teammate and current CSS teammate #Stephanie Lenz# will be the assistant captain … The Saints have been lying under the radar, since this is their first season, but Coach MacMillan expects the team to be competitive right from the start based on the players she brought in … In addition to UMD transfers, freshman #Monika Waidacher#, who played for the Swiss National Team during the Vancouver Olympics, looks to be a factor from the beginning … Junior goaltender #Rachel Borchardt# will hope to bring over the success she had from CSS's club team to the varsity squad … The Saints also brought in plenty of talented freshman from all over North America.
Augsburg Auggies (2009-10 Record: 2-20-3, 2-13-3 MIAC)
The Auggies come to town having already played two games last weekend, getting swept by the NCHA's Lake Forest College … Former UMD player and assistant coach Michelle McAteer returns to Duluth as the new head coach of the Auggies … McAteer played against MacMillan in the WCHA battles between the Badgers and Bulldogs … McAteer replaces long-time coach Jill Pohtilla, who has been the only head coach in the team's existence … Augsburg College was the first Midwestern school to offer varsity women's hockey in 1995 … The Auggies struggled last season, including going winless on the road at 0-11-1 … Gone from last year's squad are the team's top four point scorers … Senior Erin Leyden is the top returning point-getter with two goals and three assists last season … Senior Grace Edgar returns in net after playing in just six games last season.
Concordia-Moorhead Cobbers (2009-10 Record: 12-11-2, 7-9-2 MIAC)
The Cobbers began the 2010-11 season last weekend with a pair of victories over Finlandia University … The Cobbers will play UW-Superior on Friday and Saturday, before playing the Saints on Sunday … Brett Bruininks steps in as the interim head coach for Concordia this season, taking over in late June … The Cobbers will be led by senior Emily Dold, who was a first team All-MIAC selection last season … Senior Emily Sell was an honorable mention All-MIAC choice a year ago, while sophomore defenseman Macy Leland was named to the conference's All-Rookie team in … Sell was tied for the team lead with 15 goals last season … The Cobbers played two different goaltenders last weekend with junior Finlandia University transfer Casey Fiore and freshman Tamara Twite each picking up victories
