Women's Hockey Earns First NCHA Point in Tie with Foresters

The St. Scholastica women's hockey team earned its first ever Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) point but settled for a 1-1 tie in game two of its home series with the Lake Forest College Foresters on Saturday afternoon at Mars Lakeview Arena.

The Saints move to 1-3-1 on the season (0-2-1 NCHA), while the Foresters see their season-opening five-match winning streak snapped, now at 5-0-1 (1-0-1 NCHA) on the season.

Freshman #Gabby Baldassari# started her first game in net for the Saints, making 36 saves including 14 in the first period.

The Saints got on the board first as #Michelle Fischer# netted her first of the season, a long-range shot with assists from #Cara McMannis# and #Michelle Rebeck#. The goal came at 9:49 in the first, and the Saints maintained the lead throughout the first period despite being out-shot 14-3.

The second period was more evenly matched as the Saints came back with eight shots to the Foresters' 11, but Lake Forest earned the shot that counted in the second when Stephanie Slinde netted her second of the year with an assist from Jackie Friedrich.

The Foresters finished with 37 shots in the game, including five in the overtime period. The Saints finished with 16 shots, while the Foresters held them without a shot on net in the extra frame.

The Saints finished with eight penalties for 16 minutes while the Foresters finished with seven for 14. Both teams finished without a goal on the powerplay in seven chances. CSS killed off a pair of five-on-three opportunities for the Foresters, including one late in the third period.

The Saints return to their home ice on Tuesday afternoon to take on their bridge rivals in the University of Wis.-Superior Yellowjackets. The opening drop of the puck is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the action can be see live courtesy of the iFan Sports Network on csssaints.com
