MENOMONIE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Stout scored four goals in the first 11 minutes and then held on to defeat the St. Scholastica men's hockey team 7-5 on Friday night at the Dunn County Ice Arena.
The Blue Devils (4-3-0, 1-2-0 NCHA) got their first goal of the game just 1:23 in on a Dan Cecka tally. Brandon Gay and Sam Carr then had goals 1:15 seconds apart to make it 3-0. Robert Carr added a short-handed goal with 9:11 on the clock to make it 4-0 after one.
CSS (2-3-0, 0-3-0 NCHA) got on the board 1:25 into the second period with a #Garet Chumley# goal. #Paul Marcoux# and #Stephane Phaneuf# had the assists.
After Stout added two more goals, #Brett Corcoran# netted his second of the season to make it 6-2 at the second intermission. Phaneuf and #Riley Riddell# had the assists.
Riddell added his fourth goal of the season three minutes into the third period to cut the margin to 6-3. Chumley and #Kyle Cowan# had the assists. The Saints weren't done yet as #Eric Kraft# scored his first of the season with six minutes left, thanks to an assist from #Austin Brown#. #Neil Sauter# added his first of the year with four minutes to go make it 6-5.
However an untimely penalty put the Blue Devils on the power-play with less than three minutes to go and they capitalized with a Sam Carr goal to make the final 7-5.
#Patrick Sullivan# had 11 saves in the loss for the Saints. #Colin Fischer# also saw his first action in net tonight and had five saves. Tom Lescovich had 36 saves in the win for Stout. The Saints outshot the Blue Devils 41-23.
