WOMEN’S TENNIS WINS UMAC TOURNAMENT AGAIN

MINNEAPOLIS – For the 13th consecutive year, the St. Scholastica women's tennis team won the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament as the Saints swept all six singles flights today at the Baseline Tennis Center.

The Saints finished in first with 26 points. Northwestern College was second with 17 points and Martin Luther was third with 10 points.

#Ploy Suthijindawong# (Fr.-Bangkok, Thailand/Duluth Central) won the championship at the No. 1 flight by scores of 6-2, 6-0. Ploy is 18-1 in the spring season, winning her last 18 matches. She has a chance at qualifying for the NCAA Division III Individual Championships, which will be announced on Wednesday.

#Katie Motley# (Jr.-Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) won the championship at the No. 2 flight for the second consecutive year with a 6-2, 6-3 victory. #Callee Conda# (So.-Hibbing, Minn.) won at the No. 3 flight by scores of 6-4, 6-2. #Angela Shields# (Jr.-Pengilly, Minn./Greenway) won 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 4 flight. At the No. 5 flight, #Danni Sonnenfeld# (So.-Harris, Minn./North Branch) won 6-0, 6-1 and #Lynnae Wilke# (Sr.-Parkers Prairie, Minn.) won at the No. 6 flight 6-2, 6-1.

The Saints as a team will now await their fate on whether they will receive a third straight bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The field is expected to be announced at some time on Monday.
