ST. PAUL – Sophomore pitcher #Jenn Falk# (So.-Altona, Man.) threw a five-inning perfect game in an 8-0 victory against Northwestern College and then the Saints breezed past Crown College 8-0 this afternoon to extend the win streak to seven.

In a dominant performance, Falk struck out 14 of the 15 batters that she faced, including the final 12 hitters. The lone contact off of her was a groundout to short to end the bottom of the first. The CSS record for strikeouts in a seven-inning game is 16 by Laura Heise and the overall record is 19 also by Laura Heise in an 11-inning game. Falk improves to 8-3 on the year. It is the third perfect game in CSS history and the second in as many years as current Saints player, #Jenn Shaw# (So.-Northfield, Minn.) threw a five-inning perfect game against Crown College on April 30, 2008.

As for the offense against the Eagles, the Saints plated three in the top of the first as #Michaela Carlson# (Jr.-Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson) had a two-run double and eventually scored on a wild pitch. #Erika Solin# (Jr.-Duluth, Minn./Central) had a RBI-double in the second to extend the lead to 4-0.

#Robin Lake# (Sr.-Tamarack, Minn./McGregor) led off the fourth inning with a home run to left, her first of the season. Later in the inning, #Kristin Swartz# (Jr.-Hermantown, Minn.) hit a triple to score two runs and Michaela Carlson (Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson Senior HS) had a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring for the Saints in an 8-0 victory.

Robin Lake (Tamarack, Minn./McGregor HS) was 2-for-2 with the home run and Kristin Swartz (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) was 2-for-3 with the triple to pace the Saints offense.

Falk also pitched four innings against Crown College and struck out nine, while allowing just one hit in the bottom of the first.

The CSS offense scored six runs in the first on three home runs to put the game away early. Kristin Swartz (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) had a solo home run and then #Jena Dieryck# (Fr.-Esko, Minn./Duluth Denfeld) hit her first collegiate home run, a two-run shot. Still in the first, #Mary Jo McNamee# (Sr.-Escanaba, Mich.) hit her first career home run, another two-run blast to make the score 6-0. #Betsy Wehseler# (So.-Ironton, Minn./Crosby-Ironton) and #Brynn Wollak# (Fr.-Hugo, Minn./Stillwater) had RBIs in the fourth to make the final score 8-0. Wollak was 2-for-3 to lead the CSS offense.

The Saints are now 21-11 overall and 15-0 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action. CSS has won 16 of their last 17 games and with a sweep of Northland College tomorrow can clinch the UMAC regular season championship.

The Saints will play their final home games of the season tomorrow when they host Northland College in a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at Kenwood Field.
