ASHLAND, Wis. – Runs were at a premium Tuesday night at LumberJill Field, but the St. Scholastica softball team squeaked past Northland College by a score of 1-0 for its ninth win in a row.
The Saints improve to 14-10 overall and 9-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The LumberJills fall to 9-14 overall and 6-3 in the league.
The Saints managed three hits in the contest, while Northland was limited to just a pair. The lone run of the game came in the top of the second inning when #Theresa Tauer# (
Fr.-Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) led off the inning with a home run over the right field fence.

So.-Altona, Man.) did not allow a hit and struck out five, but was taken out of the game after the second out of the bottom of the fourth. #Kayla Jenkins# (
So.-Esko, Minn.) then came in for relief and allowed two hits the rest of the way, but did not allow a base runner to reach second base as CSS took down Northland in a pitcher's dual 1-0.

Fr.-Zumbrota, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa) had the two other hits for the Saints.
The Saints will return home on Thursday when they host a doubleheader against the defending NCAA Division III National Champions University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at Kenwood Field. It will be the second doubleheader against the Blugolds this season. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
