SAINTS DROP THREE ON SECOND DAY OF DALLAS SPRING CLASSIC

DALLAS, Tex. – The St. Scholastica softball team will be glad to leave the “Lone Star State” after losing three games today to finish 0-6 on their Spring Trip.

The Saints played Nebraska Wesleyan for a third time to begin Sunday. The Prairie Wolves defeated CSS 8-0 in five innings. The Saints had six hits and did not have a runner advance past second base. Nebraska Wesleyan had a 3-0 lead after three innings and then scored three runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth inning to end the game in five by way of the eight-run rule.

#Kayla Jenkins# (So.-Esko, Minn.) picked up the loss for the Saints, but she didn't get much help defensively with four errors.

St. Scholastica then played Colorado College and fell by a score of 8-0 in six innings. The Saints managed just three hits in the game. The Tigers scored three runs in the third. CSS then threatened in the top of the fifth by loading the bases, but came up empty.

Colorado College then ended the game by scoring five runs in the sixth inning to win by a score of 8-0. #Mary Jo McNamee# (Sr.-Escanaba, Mich.) had the loss for the Saints. #Theresa Tauer# (Fr.-Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata), #Robin Lake# (Sr.-Tamarack, Minn./McGregor), and #Betsy Wehseler# (So.-Ironton, Minn./Crosby-Ironton) had the three hits for CSS.

CSS finished up by playing Nebraska Wesleyan for a fourth time. It was the second time that the Prairie Wolves won in the last at-bat to defeat the Saints, winning 3-2. Yesterday, Nebraska Wesleyan won in extra innings in the bottom of the eighth.

On Sunday, the Prairie Wolves scored in the bottom of the first to go up 1-0. The Saints responded in the top of the second when #Mya Gordon# (Sr.-Duluth, Minn./Central) scored on a Nebraska Wesleyan error. The Prairie Wolves regained the lead, scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third.

The Saints came back to tie it in the top of the fourth when Robin Lake (Tamarack, Minn./McGregor HS) doubled to score #Merryssa Tiedeman# (Fr.-Zumbrota, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa). However, in the bottom of the seventh Nebraska Wesleyan would score on a CSS error to win 3-2.

Kayla Jenkins (Esko, Minn/Esko HS) got the loss for the Saints and is now 2-5 this season. #Chelsey Weiss# (Sr.-Brainerd, Minn.) and Merryssa Tiedeman (Zumbrota, Minn/Zumbrota-Mazeppa HS) had two hits each to lead the Saints offense.

The Saints, who are now 5-8 overall, return to the Midwest and will open up Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action when they travel to Northland on Monday, March 30th. That game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
