DALLAS, Texas – After getting rained out on Wednesday and Friday, the St. Scholastica softball team finally took the field on Saturday at the ninth annual University of Dallas Spring Classic.
The format of the tournament changed due to rain out of games on Friday so each team was going to play three games on Saturday and three on Sunday. Unfortunately for the Saints, they lost all three games on Saturday.
CSS faced Nebraska Wesleyan twice on the day and lost the first game 10-0 and the second 2-1 in eight innings.
Sandwiched in between both of those defeats was a close 8-7 loss to the host, University of Dallas. The Saints plated two runs in the top of the first with #Kristin Swartz# (

Dallas took the lead in the bottom of the fifth on another two-RBI double to make the score 7-6. The Crusaders scored what proved to be the game winner in the bottom of the sixth to make it 8-6.
The Saints had back-to-back doubles to begin the top of the seventh. The second one by #Merryssa Tiedeman# (
Fr.-Zumbrota, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa) drove in #Sam Quenette# (
Fr.-Spooner, Wis.) to cut the lead to 8-7. CSS then grounded out and had back-to-back strikeouts to end the game as Dallas hung on to win 8-7.
