MARQUETTE, Mich. – The St. Scholastica softball team defeated both Marian University (Wis.), 6-2, and Concordia University (Wis.), 8-3, today in the second and final day of Finlandia University Tournament held at the Superior Dome.
St. Scholastica squared off with Marian University for the first game of the day. The Saints got off to a good start as #Kristin Swartz# (
Jr.-Hermantown, Minn.) scored on a #Theresa Tauer# (
Fr.-Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) RBI-single to make it 1-0 in the top of the first. #Brynn Wollak# (
Fr.-Hugo, Minn./Stillwater) then scored on a Sabres' error to make it 2-0.
The Sabres got those two scores back in the bottom of the second with two unearned runs to tie the game at 2-2. In the top of the third, #Chelsey Weiss# (
Sr.-Brainerd, Minn.) got on by way of a walk, then stole second, advanced to third on a groundout, and then stole home to put the Saints up 3-2.
CSS extended that lead in the top of the fifth when
Brynn Wollak (Hugo, Minn./Stillwater Area) hit a two-run home run and
Theresa Tauer (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) followed that with her first collegiate home run to make it 6-2. That would be the final score as the Saints went on to win 6-2.

So.-Esko, Minn.) went the distance for the Saints as she struck out two and allowed just four hits to improve to 2-1 this season.
Theresa Tauer (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs to lead the Saints' offense.
In the second game, the Saints defeated Concordia University 8-3. The Falcons scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the first and hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. Then in the top of the fifth, #Sam Quenette# (
Fr.-Spooner, Wis.) scored on a passed ball. That was followed by an #Erika Solin# (
Jr.-Duluth, Minn./Central) two-RBI double to right center to give CSS a 3-2 lead. #Michaela Carlson# (
Jr.-Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson) then hit a RBI-single to right to make it 4-2.
St. Scholastica put up another four-spot in the top of the seventh.
Chelsey Weiss (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS) scored on a
Michaela Carlson (Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson Senior HS) sacrifice fly.
Brynn Wollak (Hugo, Minn./Stillwater Area) then had a RBI single and
Theresa Tauer (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) hit her second home run of the day, a two-run shot to make it 8-2. The Falcons added a run in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough as the Saints improve to 5-2 with an 8-3 victory.

Sr.-Escanaba, Mich.) improved to 2-0 this season as she pitched four innings and allowed two hits. #Jenn Falk# (
So.-Altona, Man.) pitched three innings of relief, striking out five and allowing just one hit.
Erika Solin (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) and
Michaela Carlson (Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson Senior HS) were both 2-for-4 with two RBIs to pace the CSS offense.
The Saints will next be in action on their Spring Trip in Dallas, Texas, March 11-15. CSS will open up with a doubleheader against the University of Dallas on Wednesday, March 11th. That game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
