DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team won its second home match in a row with a 6-3 victory this morning over Division II's St. Cloud State at the Burns Wellness Commons.
The Saints are now 2-1 overall, while this was the first match of the season for Huskies. The Saints are 6-9 all-time against St. Cloud State and snap a two-match losing streak to the Huskies.
CSS got off to a good start sweeping all three doubles matches for the second straight dual-match. The No. 1 doubles team of #Paula Beckermann# (

Jr.-Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) improved to 3-0 on the season with an 8-6 victory. The No. 2 team of #Ploy Suthijindawong# (
Fr.-Bangkok, Thailand/Duluth Central) and #Callee Conda# (
So.-Hibbing, Minn.) won by the exact same score, 8-6. Finally the No. 3 team of #Natalie Urick# (
Jr.-Virginia, Minn.) and #Kelly Ross# (
Jr.-Buffalo, Minn.) were victorious by a score of 8-4.
Then in singles action,
Ploy Suthijindawong (Bangkok, Thailand/Duluth Central HS) won at No. 1 in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4.
Callee Conda (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (UW-Green Bay)) at No. 3 singles won also by a score of 6-0, 6-4.
Katie Motley (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) cruised at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-1. The three losses by the Saints in singles competition were all by three-sets.
The Saints head to St. Paul, Minn. next weekend for a dual match against the University of St. Thomas. The action begins at 11 a.m.
