DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team opened Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play on Wednesday, falling 4-0 to Carleton College at Kenny Harkins Field.
Carleton (3-1-0, 1-0-0 MIAC) took control early, scoring three times in the opening 25 minutes. Eliza Barton opened the scoring in the sixth minute before Isabelle Connolly doubled the advantage at 16:52. Kiana Feldis added another goal at 24:17 to send the Knights into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
St. Scholastica goalkeeper Addie Aleshire (Fridley, MN/Fridley HS) kept the Saints within reach with six saves in the opening half. She finished the match with 10 saves as Carleton put 14 of its 27 shots on goal.
The Saints limited Carleton to nine shots after halftime, but Katherine Mallon added the final goal of the afternoon in the 68th minute.
St. Scholastica generated both of its shots in the closing stages. Gianna Hansen (Proctor, MN/Proctor High School) put an attempt on goal in the 77th minute before Lyssa Breiland (Duluth, MN/Duluth East High School) followed with another in the 82nd, with both stopped by Carleton goalkeeper Sophia Lehman.
The loss moves St. Scholastica to 3-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in MIAC play. Carleton finished with a 27-2 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Saints return to action Saturday, Sept. 19, hosting Macalester College at 1 p.m. at Kenny Harkins Field.
