Women's Soccer Comes Up Short Against Macalester

DULUTH, Minn. – Anna Manion (Superior, WI/Superior HS) scored in the second half and Chloe Patrick (Brainerd, MN/Brainerd High School) recorded 11 saves as The College of St. Scholastica women's soccer team fell 3-1 to Macalester College on Saturday at Kenny Harkins Field.

The Saints moved to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, while Macalester improved to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Macalester opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Nisha Wetter converted an assist from Mikayla Edmunds. Evelyn Savoie added an unassisted goal at 26:34 to give the Scots a 2-0 advantage.

Patrick made four first-half saves, including two in quick succession in the 33rd minute, to keep the deficit at two. Manion put a shot on target in the 35th minute, but Macalester goalkeeper Lily Salazar made the save as the Scots carried their lead into halftime.

Macalester applied pressure early in the second half, with Patrick making six saves in the opening eight minutes. Gianna Hansen (Proctor, MN/Proctor High School) tested the Scots at the other end in the 52nd minute, but her attempt was stopped by Abigail Heuga.

Edmunds extended Macalester's lead to 3-0 with an unassisted goal at 60:47 before the Saints responded in the 70th minute. Manion scored unassisted at 69:25 to cut the deficit to two with more than 20 minutes remaining.

St. Scholastica continued to create chances down the stretch. Lily Rippie (Inver Grove Heights, MN/Rosemount HS) put a shot on goal in the 84th minute, and Julia Lewis (Maple Grove, MN/Maple Grove HS) had an attempt cleared by a Macalester defender in the 87th. Hansen added a shot wide in the final minute, but the Saints were unable to close the gap further.

Manion led St. Scholastica with three shots, including two on goal. Rippie and Hansen each added two attempts. The Saints generated seven of their 10 shots after halftime, while Macalester finished with 21 shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. Patrick played all 90 minutes and made seven of her 11 saves in the second half.

Head coach Dave Reyelts received two yellow cards and was sent off in the second half. He will miss the Saints' next match.

St. Scholastica returns to Kenny Harkins Field on Monday, Sept. 21, to host UW-River Falls in a nonconference matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
