Women’s Soccer Blanks Concordia Behind Two First-Half Goals

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Anna Manion (Superior, WI/Superior HS) and Hannah Holm (Elk River, MN/Elk River HS) scored first-half goals, and Addie Aleshire (Fridley, MN/Fridley HS) made four saves as the St. Scholastica women's soccer team earned a 2-0 MIAC victory over Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday.

The Saints improved to 6-9-2 overall and 2-6-2 in conference play, while the Cobbers dropped to 5-9-1 overall and 4-6-0 in the MIAC.

Manion opened the scoring at the 17:27 mark, putting St. Scholastica ahead 1-0. Just over seven minutes later, Holm doubled the advantage with a goal at 24:41. Both goals were unassisted.

CSS controlled much of the first-half attack, outshooting Concordia 8-3 and putting six attempts on target to take a two-goal lead into halftime.

The Cobbers generated six shots and five corner kicks after the break, but Aleshire stopped all three shots she faced on goal in the second half to preserve the shutout. Her final save came in the 85th minute.

St. Scholastica finished with a 13-9 advantage in shots, including a 9-4 edge in shots on goal, and held a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks. Lindsay Hunt (Brainerd, MN/Brainerd High School) and Julia Lewis (Maple Grove, MN/Maple Grove HS) led CSS with three shots apiece, with each putting two on target. Concordia goalkeeper Julia Roark finished with seven saves.

The Saints travel to Bethany Lutheran for a nonconference matchup Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 4:30 p.m. in Mankato.
