Women's Basketball Drops Nail-Biter at Bethel, 71-77

St. Paul, Minn. — The Saints women's basketball team battled hard but ultimately fell 77-71 at Bethel University on Saturday afternoon, snapping a four-game winning streak while moving CSS to 10-4 in MIAC play (15-6 overall) and into a tie for fourth place in the conference standings.

St. Scholastica hung with the Royals throughout a physical contest in the Robertson Center, trading leads and answering every run Bethel mounted. The Saints closed the first half trailing only 35-38 and continued to fight in a back-and-forth second half. With the score tight late, Bethel made a few key plays down the stretch that allowed the Royals to secure the victory.

The Saints were led by Ava Haus (St. Michael, MN/St. Michael-Albertville High School), who poured in a game-high 25 points (8-of-11 FG, 2-of-4 3PT, 7-of-10 FT) and in the process broke the CSS single-season record for three-pointers made, further cementing her place in program history.

Kloey Lind (Pine City, MN/Pine City HS) added a solid all-around performance with 13 points, eight rebounds, and a spark on both ends of the floor, while Evie Schmitz (Burnsville, MN/St. Louis Park) chipped in 12 points in another strong showing for the Saints. Jackie Johnson (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji HS) (6) and Gabby Voigt (St. Michael. MN/St. Michael- Albertville HS) (5) provided additional scoring and energy off the bench as CSS fought to the final buzzer.

St. Scholastica shot 49.0% from the floor and 38.5% from three, outperforming Bethel in several offensive categories — including field-goal percentage — but could not overcome the Royals' timely buckets and consistency from the free-throw line.

Up next, the Saints are back at home on Wednesday, February 11 to take on St. Olaf.
