MENOMONIE, Wis. – Head coach Barry Chastey earned his 250th career victory leading the St. Scholastica men's soccer program Tuesday evening as the Saints defeated UW-Stout 4-1 at Nelson Field.
Tim Bader (München, Germany/) scored twice, Daniel Durney (Winchester, England) contributed two assists, and Parker Chastey (Duluth, MN/Denfeld HS) and Vasco Carneiro (Lisbon, Portugal/) each added a goal as CSS celebrated the milestone with its fourth consecutive win. The Saints improved to 6-5 overall, while the Blue Devils fell to 4-5-2.
Bader opened the scoring at 22:04 off assists from Durney and Harry Cook (Fareham, England/Henry Cort Community College). Parker Chastey (Duluth, MN/Denfeld HS) doubled the advantage at 31:49, converting a penalty kick to give St. Scholastica a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
Afonso Silva (Lisbon, Portugal/) stopped all three shots he faced in the opening half, helping the Saints maintain their two-goal cushion as CSS held a 9-7 edge in shots.
Bader struck again just over five minutes into the second half, finishing off another Durney assist at 50:20 to extend the lead to 3-0.
UW-Stout got on the scoreboard at 62:16 when Ryker Rivard scored off assists from Sven Oberg and Logan Bergien. The Saints answered just 2:27 later, as Carneiro scored an unassisted goal at 64:43 to restore the three-goal margin.
Dylan Gies (Stavanger, Norway/) played the second half in goal, making two saves to help close out the victory. Silva and Gies combined for five stops.
Bader led the Saints with six shots, including three on target, while Durney added three attempts. St. Scholastica finished with a 16-15 advantage in shots and a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Both teams recorded six shots on goal.
The Saints return to MIAC play Saturday, Oct. 10, traveling to St. Olaf for a 3:30 p.m. match in Northfield.
