Saints track and field braved the frigid temps to bus down to Collegeville on Saturday morning. Competing against a mix of regional talent, additional competitors came together from Minnesota Morris, St. John's University, and University of Wisconsin - Superior. The meet additionally served as an alumni celebration for the College of St. Benedict/St. John's University.

Noah Kubicek (Owatona, Minn./Owatonna HS) continued to make the most of his final indoor season for the Saints. In the 400m dash, Kubicek won the break and never looked back. Stretching his lead out in the second lap, Kubicek surged to the finish line to break the tape in 49.37 seconds. This is a new school record for the Saints, and Kubicek's second week in a row with a school record in different events. The time also set a new meet record.

Kubicek returned with another victory in the 200m dash. Kubicek's winning time of 22.70 slid him up to second overall on the Saints all time list.

Newcomer Trevor Turner made his St. Scholastica debut in style to start the meet. Clearing his first five bars on his first attempt, Turner grabbed gold with a winning clearance of 1.86m. Although he is just getting started, Turner established himself as the eight best high jumper in school history in his first competition. Matthew Erickson (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) finished runner-up to his teammate with a jump of 1.80m.

Trent Beseth (Stanchfield, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) pushed out a solid shot put series to grab a number of accolades at the meet. Beseth won the shot put with a best throw on the day of 17.77m. This mark knocked down the meet record, as well as setting a new facility record at St. John's. Beseth beat his own facility record from last season in this process.

Another weekend, another meet record for Joshua Monreal (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS). With a second week in a row of 18-plus meter performances, Monreal took home the victory in the weight throw with a toss of 18.09m.

Spencer Strohm (Barnum/Barnum High School) made the most of his one-race final in the 60m hurdles on Saturday morning. Strohm got out to a blazing start, and although running into some hurdles in the final stages of the race, he was able to maintain his momentum and grab his first collegiate victory. Strohm won the race in 8.59 seconds - just one hundredth of a second off of his personal best from December.

Zack Bartsch raced his way to his own first collegiate victory in the 800m dash. Bartsch grabbed the lead shortly after the halfway point of the race and kept pressing to the finish. Bartsch was the first across the line with a new personal record of 2:04.16. Bartsch led a Saints sweep in which Ben Westholm (Duluth, MN/Duluth East High School), Jeffrey Kayfes (Buhl, Minn./Mountain Iron-Buhl HS), and Joel Bouley (Zimmerman, MN/Zimmerman HS) came through in the next finishing spots.

Connor Feldt (Buhl, MN/Mountain Iron-Buhl High School) raced his way to a big personal record in the mile. With a blistering final lap under 30 seconds, Feldt toppled the 4:30 barrier with a fourth place finish in 4:29.11 seconds. The time sneaks Feldt into the Saints all-time list as the tenth fastest miler in school history.

The Saints will regroup and continue their preparation for the MIAC championships next month. Catch them in action next weekend down at St. Olaf for a two-day competition through the weekend.
