MOORHEAD, Minn. — St. Scholastica traveled to Moorhead to take on the Cobbers of Concordia College Friday evening. Despite the Saints scoring twice, the Cobbers' offense scored six, taking game one with a 6-2 victory.
The Cobbers found the net just 43 seconds into the first period. They scored twice more to take a three-goal lead through 12:54. Towards the end of the period,
Gavin Gunderson (Roseau, MN/Roseau HS) put the Saints on the board with an assist from
Evan Pahos (Parker, CO/).
Concordia put three more on the board in the second quarter to take a 6-1 advantage into the third period.
During the final frame, the Saints added another goal from
Riley Girod (Calvet, SK, Canada/), with assists from
Jan Jyvasjarvi (Espoo, Finland/) and
Isaac Suppin (Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada/George Elliot Secondary). Despite continued offensive pressure, the gap was too large for the Saints, and the Cobbers came away with a 6-2 victory.
Goaltenders
Eino Rissanen (Sonvillier, Switzerland/Lycée Blaise-Cendrars) and
Brenden Stroble (Livonia, MI/Adlai E. Stevenson HS) split time in the contest, recording 11 and 15 saves, respectively.
Jared Scott (Kenosha, WI/Christian Life School) led the Saints with two blocked shots.
The Saints (4-11-1, 1-5-1 MIAC) remain in Moorhead and will look to even the series against Concordia College on Saturday, January 17.
