MOORHEAD, Minn. — St. Scholastica played game two against the Cobbers of Concordia College on Saturday afternoon. Despite being tied at 1-1 heading into the third period, the Cobbers scored three in the third period to come away with a 4-1 victory.
The Saints opened the scoring with a goal 10:36 into the first period from
Hunter Hanson (Blaine, MN/Blaine HS) with assists from
Tristan Shewchuk (Saskatoon, SK, Canada/St. Joseph HS) and
Wyatt Wurst (Edina, MN/Edina HS). The Saints' defense held to take a one-goal advantage into the second period.
Despite the Cobbers outshooting the Saints 10-9, neither team was able to score in the second period.
With the score equal at one goal each, the Cobbers scored 32 seconds into the third period to take the lead. The Cobbers added two more goals in the period, and the Saints were unable to respond, ending the weekend with a 4-1 victory for the Cobbers.
Brenden Stroble (Livonia, MI/Adlai E. Stevenson HS) was in goal tonight for the Saints and recorded 26 saves, and Hanson led with four shots on net.
The Saints (4-12-1, 1-6-1 MIAC) will continue MIAC play with a home-and-home series against Bethel University next weekend. Game one will take place on Friday, January 23, at the National Sports Center in Blaine, MN. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
