Women's Basketball Leads Entire Game, Cruises Past Macalester, 62-48

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team earned its second straight victory on Wednesday night, defeating Macalester 62–48 inside Reif Gymnasium. The Saints controlled the game from start to finish, building an early lead and maintaining separation throughout to improve to 10–4 overall and 5–2 in MIAC play.

St. Scholastica set the tone in the opening quarter, shooting efficiently from the perimeter and taking a 19–12 advantage after one. The Saints extended that margin before halftime, outscoring the Scots 20–10 in the second quarter to carry a 39–22 lead into the break. The home side shot 50 percent from the field in both the first and second quarters, while holding Macalester under 20 percent shooting over the first 20 minutes.

Evie Schmitz (Burnsville, MN/St. Louis Park) led all scorers with 22 points, knocking down five three-pointers and adding four assists. Ava Haus (St. Michael, MN/St. Michael-Albertville High School) followed with 19 points, connecting on five shots from beyond the arc, while also contributing four assists and two blocks. Kloey Lind (Pine City, MN/Pine City HS) added a strong all-around performance with 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting, helping the Saints maintain control in the paint.

Macalester found some offensive rhythm in the third quarter, trimming the margin slightly, but St. Scholastica responded with timely shooting to keep the Scots at arm's length. The Saints entered the fourth quarter up 52–39 and closed out the win by limiting Macalester to nine points over the final 10 minutes.

St. Scholastica finished the night shooting 41.1 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from three-point range, while forcing 12 turnovers and holding Macalester to 26.0 percent shooting overall. Up next, the Saints look to defend home court on Saturday, January 17 against Bethel on Alumni Day. Tip off is scheduled for 1:00p.m.
