Waukesha, Wis. – The Saint Scholastica Men's soccer team traveled deep into Wisconsin, headed to Waukesha to play the Pioneers of Carroll University in a non-conference match. Today's match up ended with the Pioneers taking an early lead and maintaining that lead until the final whistle, ending in a 1-0 loss for the Saints.
How it Happened
First Half
Carroll struck the back of the net in the 11th minute, but the Saints settled quickly and created chances of their own. Gabriel Marchesoni nearly answered in the 14th minute with a long-range strike, while Parker Chastey followed up with a shot from distance in the 28th. Tim Bader produced an excellent look in the first half, in the 30th minute, driving a low shot on target that forced a save.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Ben Hallberg stood tall between the posts, making a key save in the 13th minute to keep the Saints within reach. By halftime, the Saints had three shots and a corner, while limiting Carroll to just one goal despite their early pressure.
Second Half
Out of the break, the Saints grew more dangerous in the attack. Early corners from the Saints kept Carroll pinned back, and Marchesoni again tested the keeper in the 72nd minute with a driven shot. Moments later, Chastey nearly found the equalizer with a sharp effort toward the bottom corner, but the Carroll goalkeeper turned it away.
Defensively, Hallberg was exceptional, finishing with five saves, including back-to-back stops in the 62nd and 73rd minutes. His composure in the net gave the Saints a chance to stay within striking distance.

The Saints (0-2-1, 0-0 MIAC) will once again travel into Wisconsin, this time headed to Fond du Lac, Wis. headed to Marian University to play the Sabres (1-1-1) on Sunday, September 7. The game is scheduled for 12 P.M.
