SUPERIOR, Wis. — St. Scholastica's volleyball team fell to UW-Superior in a 3-0 decision, struggling to find rhythm against a strong Yellowjacket squad.
The Saints battled hard in the first set, but Superior's balanced attack and solid defense powered them to a 25-12 win. Makenna Hohbein and Marena Saeger led the way for the Yellowjackets, combining for multiple kills and key plays.
In the second set, St. Scholastica fought back and kept the game competitive, trailing 25-19. Mikala Peterson (Mora, MN/Mora HS) and Natalie Yackley (New Ulm, MN/New Ulm HS) contributed several kills, while Ava Decker (Rochester, MN/Century HS) and Cassidy Lustig (Ashland, WI/Ashland HS) anchored the defense. Still, Superior's consistency proved too much for the Saints.
The final set saw Superior pull away early and maintain control, winning 25-15. Despite efforts from Lustig, Peterson, and Yackley, the Saints couldn't overcome the Yellowjackets offensive firepower and defensive pressure.
St. Scholastica will look to regroup as they continue their conference schedule on Friday, Oct. 3, in a home matchup against Carleton College at 7 p.m. in the Reif Gym inside of the Burns Wellness Commons.
