Duluth, Minn. – The Saint Scholastica volleyball team hosted the Scots of Macalester College in a MIAC Conference match that concluded with the Saints taking a dominant victory after only three sets.
How it Happened
First Set
The Saints set the tone early on their home court. Setter Natalie Yackley (New Ulm, MN/New Ulm HS) got the offense rolling, feeding Ava Decker (Rochester, MN/Century HS) for the opening kill. Lindsey Baribeau (Biwabik, MN/Mesabi East HS) quickly made her presence felt with a block and a kill, while Mikala Peterson (Mora, MN/Mora HS) and Abby Zins (Chisago Lakes, MN/Chisago Lakes High School) added steady scoring at the net. Baribeau dominated defensively as well, teaming up with Zins for a pair of big blocks. The Saints built a commanding lead and closed out the first set 25–18.
Second Set
The Saints took complete control in the second set. Yackley continued distributing flawlessly, piling up assists that fueled a balanced attack. Cassidy Lustig (Ashland, WI/Ashland HS) and Ava Swangstue (Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) sparked the offense with key kills, while Zins and Baribeau hammered home points to extend the margin. Behind Ziegler's serving run—including an ace—the Saints went on a massive run that left Macalester scrambling. Yackley sealed the set with back-to-back service aces, and the Saints cruised to a dominant 25–9 win, hitting an impressive .522 as a team.
Third Set
Looking for the sweep, the Saints wasted no time jumping ahead. Baribeau continued her standout night with kills and blocks, while Peterson and Decker added steady offense. Midway through, Zins and freshman Lilli Rechichi (Ely, MN/Ely Memorial HS) contributed key points, showing the Saints' depth. Serving once again made the difference, as Decker and Lustig delivered aces to keep momentum rolling. With Baribeau slamming down the final kill, the Saints closed out the match 25–17 and secured the sweep.
