COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - The St. Scholastica men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to Saint John's on Monday afternoon at Haws Field.
The Saints came out strong in the first half, generating 12 shots and applying pressure early.
Parker Chastey (Duluth, MN/Denfeld HS) and
Fabian Andrade (Quito, Ecuador/Colegio Intisana) each tested the Johnnie keeper, while
Gabriel Marchesoni (Surrey, Canada/) had multiple chances to break through. Despite the offensive push, Saint John's capitalized on its opportunities, scoring twice in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into the break.
Saint John's extended its advantage to 4-0 midway through the second half, but the Saints continued to fight. In the 77th minute,
Ted Barker (Huntingdon, England/) found the back of the net off assists from
Tim Bader (München, Germany/) and Lucas Bollback, pulling one back for CSS. The goal was Barker's second of the season.
St. Scholastica finished with a 19-11 shot advantage, including four on frame, but couldn't overcome the early deficit. Keeper
Ben Hallberg (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS) recorded one save in the contest.
With the result, the Saints move to 0-5-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play. They'll look to bounce back on Wednesday, September 24th, when they travel to Superior, Wisconsin to take on UW-Superior. That game is slated for a 7pm start time.
