Saints Battle to 1-1 Draw at Gustavus

ST. PETER, Minn. — The St. Scholastica women's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw on the road Saturday afternoon against Gustavus Adolphus at Gustie Soccer Field in the MIAC opener.

After a scoreless first half, the Gusties struck first in the 56th minute, but the Saints wasted little time in responding. Just under three minutes later, Kaitlyn Sautter (Princeton, MN./Princeton HS) netted the equalizer in the 59th minute, scoring her first goal of the season to bring the match level.

The Saints were anchored defensively by goalkeeper Rylee Senich (Cloquet, MN/Cloquet HS), who was outstanding between the posts. Senich finished with 13 saves while facing 28 total shots from the Gustavus attack, keeping the Saints in contention throughout the afternoon.

On the offensive end, the Saints tallied 15 shots, including six on target. Tenley Voth (Farmington, MN/Farmington HS) and Anna Manion (Superior, WI/Superior HS) were active up front, combining for eight shots, while Julia Lewis (Maple Grove, MN/Maple Grove HS) and Sautter each put attempts on frame.

The result moves St. Scholastica to 2-3-2 overall and 0-0-1 in MIAC play.

The Saints will look to build on this performance when they play UW-River Falls tomorrow at 2pm in River Falls, Wisconsin.
