RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The College of St. Scholastica women's soccer team battled hard on the road Sunday afternoon but came up short in a 2-1 setback against UW-River Falls at Ramer Soccer Stadium.
After a scoreless first half in which goalkeeper
Rylee Senich (Cloquet, MN/Cloquet HS) kept the Saints level with six saves, CSS broke through in the 75th minute.
Anna Manion (Superior, WI/Superior HS) capitalized on the attack, finishing her third goal of the season to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.
The momentum shifted minutes later when the Saints were forced to play down a player following a red card. River Falls equalized in the 81st minute on a strike from Lauren Best and then quickly pulled ahead two minutes later on a goal by Emery Bigler.
Despite the Falcons outshooting the Saints 30-14, Senich turned in a strong performance with nine saves to keep CSS within reach. Offensively,
Kaitlyn Sautter (Princeton, MN./Princeton HS) and
Tenley Voth (Farmington, MN/Farmington HS) paced the attack with three shots apiece, while
Michelle McGrath (Stillwater, Minn./Hill-Murray HS),
Peyton Mathiasen (St. Cloud, MN/St. Cloud Cathedral HS), and others created additional chances.
The loss moves the Saints to 2-4-2 overall on the season. The Saints will look to bounce back when they travel to St. Joseph, MN to resume their postponed game against the College of St. Benedict on Wednesday, September 24. That game is slated to start at 4pm in the 11th minute.
