Saints Track and Field Fills Up MIAC All-Conference Teams

DULUTH, Minn- The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its annual award recipients for Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field on Thursday, capping off an outstanding championship meet last weekend. The Saints were well represented on both sides and came away with a plethora of winners.

On the men's side, the Saints were spearheaded by Joshua Monreal (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS). The thrower had an epic weekend that saw him crowned as MIAC champion in the hammer throw with a best mark of 54.23m. Monreal was also named to the all-conference team in the shot put, where he finished third with a furthest throw of 15.12m, about 70 centimeters off the lead. 

Another Saint who had himself a weekend was Lars Dewall (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) who captured the silver medal in the 5000m with a time of 15:08.02, missing the win by just seconds. Dewall also finished as MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention in the 1500m, coming in fourth place at 3:53.27. His teammate in the race, Calvin Boone (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Highland Park HS), also picked up the honorable mention designation, finishing in fifth place just a hair behind Dewall with a time of 3:53.77. 

The last Saints men's individual award winner was Noah Kubicek (Owatona, Minn./Owatonna HS), who was able to slide into the fourth place spot in the 400m and earn the honorable mention title with a sizzling time of 48.40. Kubicek would also receive the same designation as part of the 4x100m relay and the 4x400m relay, both which finished in fifth place with times of 42.65 and 3:19.08 respectively. The other members of the relays would pick up the MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention recognition as well, with Carter O'Bey (Alborn, Minn./Alborn HS), Sean Alfaro Diedrich (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS), and Derek Douglas (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba HS) paired with Kubicek in the 4x100m and Diedrich, Douglas and Zachary Bartsch (Plymouth, MN/Totino Grace) joining him in the 4x400m. 


On the women's side, the Saints were highlighted by Ella Stritesky (Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) who finished runner-up in the hammer throw with a massive toss of 50.92m to earn her way onto the MIAC All-Conference team. She was joined in the hammer throw by Ella Engen's (Clearbrook, Minn./Clearbrook-Gonvick HS) sixth place finish that earned her MIAC All-Conference honorable mention with a best distance of 46.54m.  The other individual to be honored was Toria Strampe (Austin, Minn./Austin HS) who finished in a dead even tie for fifth place in the high jump at a distance of 1.49m. This finish was good enough for her to earn the honorable mention title as well. 

Some select Saints await the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field selection show to see who will make the trip to Geneva, Ohio for the National Championships from May 22-24.
