5/1/2025 2:14:00 PM

The track and field team competed at Hamline University's Meet of the Unsaintly on Wednesday afternoon in St. Paul. The meet provided area athletes a final window to hit qualification standards for their respective conference championships that will start up next week. Bethel, Concordia - St. Paul, Hamline, Macalester, Minnesota, Minnesota - Duluth, North Central, St. Benedict's, St. Cloud State, St. Olaf, St. Thomas were all in attendance for the high-level competition.

Kicking off the action for the Saints was the 4x100m relay team of Shayna Wick (Poplar, WI/Northwestern High School), Kayla Nelson (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS), Jaden Ellefson (Saginaw, Minn./South Ridge HS), and Ava Fink (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS). Polishing up their handoffs from last week's debut, the team chopped off a bit of time to improve to 50.02 seconds. This makes the group the sixth fastest 4x100m relay team in school history.

Grace McCormick (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld HS) latched onto a quick train of top MIAC talent in the 1500m run. McCormick hung tough and closed hard to cross the finish line in 4:52.73. This time moves McCormick all the way to fourth overall on the Saints all-time performance list.

In the field events, Toria Strampe (Austin, Minn./Austin HS) continued her streak of clearances in the high jump. Strampe cleared four bars on the day, while bettered her personal best with a leap of 1.54m. This moved Strampe to number seven on the Saints all-time performance list.

To wrap up the evening under the lights, Mollykate Hagen stepped to the starting line of the 5000m. Hagen took matters into her own hands and went straight to the lead as the gun went off. Hagen caught a groove and stretched out her lead with each lap until she crossed the finish line in 18:52.11. This time is now the ninth fastest 5000m mark in St. Scholastica history.

The throwers will head down to compete at MSU-Mankato on Friday. After that, it is all eyes on the MIAC Championships on May 9th and 10th at Macalester College.
