A contingent of the track and field team headed to Hamline University to keep the outdoor season moving on Saturday.
The first running event of the day came with a Saints sweep in the 5000m run. Distance stand-outs Lars DeWall and Calvin Boone (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Highland Park HS) commanded the race and cruised to victory with their times of 15:07.88 and 15:17.57.
Ashton Niemi (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) raced to a personal best in the 1500m run. Niemi placed 13th with a time of 4:18.62.
On the field side, Joshua Monreal (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) had a busy day leading the Saints in three separate throwing events. The star sophomore started his day with a season best performance (42.23m) in the discus to place fourth.
Monreal returned to the ring with a strong runner up performance in the hammer throw. His best throw of 50.80m keeps him over the 50m mark in both outdoor competitions on the year.
Finally, Monreal eclipsed another big barrier in the shot put with a 15.01m toss to finish as the first collegiate competitor.
The team looks towards a split meet between Bethel University and Mankato State next weekend.
