Saints Track and Field Split Squad Shows Out in Mankato and La Crosse

Mankato, Minn. – The Saint Scholastica women's outdoor track and field team headed southwest to Mankato, Minn., to compete in the Maverick Invitational. The field included competitors from:

  • Minnesota State University-Mankato  
  • University of South Dakota-Sioux Falls
  • Augustana University
  • University of Minnesota-Duluth
  • Southwest Minnesota State University
  • South Dakota State University
  • Iowa Central University
  • University of Wisconsin-Superior
  • Northern State University
  • Buena Vista University
  • University of Wisconsin-River Falls
  • Gustavus Adolphus College
  • Saint Mary's University. 

While most of the Saints competed the previous day at St. Thomas, there were still several impressive performances on the day.

Ella Engen (Clearbrook, Minn./Clearbrook-Gonvick HS) finished in 17th place after throwing a distance of 11.50m in the shot put.

Engen also competed in the discus for the Saints. She finished 16th, throwing a distance of 35.67m. Elizabeth Hamilton (Lehi, Utah/Summit Academy HS) and Ella Heins (Ogilvie, MN/Ogilvie High School) also competed in the discus. Hamilton finished with a throw of 31.33m, and Heins, with a throw of 25.00m.

The Saints also had two athletes competing in the Javelin in Mankato. Hamilton finished in sixth place with a furthest distance recorded of 25.94m. Kyra Hovis (Duluth, MN/Superior High School) also competed in the Javelin, but she fouled on all three attempts. 

The Saints loaded their lineup for the hammer throw with five competitors. Ella Stritesky (Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) finished, placing third with a distance of 49.98m. Right behind her was Engen, who came in at sixth with a throw of 46.54m. Hovis was the next Saint, finishing in 22nd place with a throw of 29.00m. Hamilton was the fourth Saint in the hammer throw, throwing a distance of 35.39m. Heins was the fifth and final Saint in this event. She finished with a throw of 27.27m. 

La Crosse, Wis. – The Saints also traveled to La Crosse, Wis., to compete in another meet, splitting up their field and track events. In La Crosse, the Saints pitted off against the following schools:

The Saints only had one athlete make an appearance, Abby Wood, who competed in the 10,000m run. Wood waited until the evening to compete and finished her race in 17th place with a time of 40:19.99. 

What's Next
The Saints will travel to Minneapolis, Minn., to compete against the University of Minnesota, among other teams, in the University of Minnesota Invite on Wednesday, April 23.
