Saints Weave Through Delays at Easter Invite

4/18/2025 12:18:00 PM

The majority of the track and field team made their way to St. Thomas University on Saturday to compete before the long weekend. Incoming storms threatened the meet's original schedule, as the Saints boarded an early bus to beat the weather. Although the meet was smaller than a typical invitational, a strong presence of Division I talent kept the competition fierce.

Ava Fink (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) won her heat comfortably in the 100m dash to finish seventh overall in a time of 12.88 seconds. Fink returned in the 200m dash to finish a hair off of her personal best in 26.64 seconds.

Kayla Nelson (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) led the Saints in the 400m dash with a finishing time of 1:01.99. Fellow Saints sprinter Jaden Ellefson (Saginaw, Minn./South Ridge HS) was right on Nelson heels with a time of 1:02.21 and a heat sweep. The duo placed sixth and eighth overall in the meet.

In the 800m run, Regan DeWitt (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) raced to a season's best with a time of 2:21.02. DeWitt placed third overall in the meet and moved up to sixth overall on the Saints all-time list.

Adelyn McCorison (Ninilchik, AK/Ninilchik High School) ran a personal best in the 800m run to place eight overall, crossing the line in 2:31.21.

The action doesn't stop here for Saints Track and Field this weekend. The throwers will travel to Mankato to continue their season, as well as a handful of distance runners chasing national qualifying marks in La Crosse. Both of those competitions will take place on Friday, April 18th.
