Mankato, Minn –

The Saint Scholastica men's outdoor track and field team headed southwest to Mankato, Minn., to compete in the Maverick Invitational. The field included competitors from:

• University of Minnesota-Duluth
• Southwest Minnesota State University
• South Dakota State University
• Iowa Central University
• University of Wisconsin-Superior
• Northern State University

• Saint Mary's University. 

Josh Monreal was the first Saint to step onto the field today, competing in the shot put. In his first attempt in the circle, he fouled, but he made up for that on his second go, throwing a 14.66m distance.  Mason Sundquist (Cloquet, MN/Cloquet HS) was the other Saint to compete in the shot put. He finished after finishing with a best throw of 13.05m. 

Sundquist finished second in flight one for the Saints discuss squad, with a recorded distance of 31.60m. Monreal was in flight two for the Saints and finished in eighth with a distance of 45.86m. 

The solitary Saint competing in the Javelin today was Simon Sotiropoulos. He finished sixth with a recorded distance of 35.38m.

The Saints had four athletes competing in the Hammer Throw. In flight one was Joe Carlyn Ngonu (Maplewood, MN/Tartan HS), who finished second with a distance of 35.46m, followed by Mason Sundquist (Cloquet, MN/Cloquet HS), who finished 10th with a distance of 41.39m. Flight three featured Monreal in his third event. He recorded an eighth-place distance of 52.22m.

La Crosse, Wis. – The Saints also traveled to La Crosse, Wis., to compete in another meet, splitting up their field and track events. In La Crosse, the Saints pitted off against the following schools:

The Saints only had one athlete competing for the men's team at La Crosse. Calvin Boone (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Highland Park HS), who attempted to continue to assert dominance on the track, finished the 1500m run in sixth place, with an impressive time of 3:54.60.

What's Next
The Saints will travel to Minneapolis, Minn., to compete against the University of Minnesota, among other teams, in the University of Minnesota Invite on Wednesday, April 23.
