The St. Scholastica men's tennis team traveled to Orlando, Florida to compete against the Scots of Covenant College. Today's match ended with the Saints failing to capture a win after a well-fought effort against the Scots with a final score of 6-1.
How it Happened
Doubles
Jonas Abeleda (Sydney, Australia/St Aloysius' College) and Eamon Gerrard-Stace (Brisbane, Au./St Joseph's Nudgee College) started today's action off in the doubles section of play. They finished their match, falling to the Scots with a final score of 2-6.
Dane Patten (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and Jack Onkka (Thief River Falls, Minn./) were next up for the Saints, they overcame their opponent after a tie-breaker, winning 7-6.
Reece Patten (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and Alex Daigneault (Agua Dulce, Calif./Hart HS) were the final pair for the Saints' doubles matches. In their match, they too bested their opponents, winning with a final score of 6-3 to give the Saints the doubles point.
Singles
Abeleda was the first Saint to compete in the singles portion of the match today. In his match, he came up short of the victory, finishing with scores of 5-7, and 3-6.
D. Patten was second up for the Saints. He too was unable to close a victory, ending in two sets, with scores of 0-6 and 1-6.
Gerrard-Stace was the third athlete for the Saints in the singles competition. He finished with a loss by scores of 1-6 and 4-6.
Harper Dircks (Hopkins, Minn.) was fourth for the Saints. In his match, he forced a third set, but came up short, ending with scores of 6-1, 4-6, and 0-1.
Fifth was Andy Shaffer (Buffalo, Minn./). After two sets, he was ultimately bested by his opponent with scores of 5-7 and 1-6.
Rounding out the Saints athletes for the singles portion of today's match was Jose Naranjo (). He finished his match with a loss after three sets. In those three sets, he scored 7-5, 1-6, and 0-1.

The Saints will continue their Spring break tournament with two matches on Monday March 10th against the Carthage COllege Firebirds (5-3) at 2:30 p.m. and the the Calvin College Knights (3-3) at 6:00 p.m.
