Fargo, ND. – The Saint Scholastica women's tennis team headed west to compete against the Cobbers of Concordia College. Today's MIAC Conference match ended with the Saints earning another conference win by a score of 7-2.
How it Happened
Doubles
Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium) and Paula Sendele (Icking, ,DE/), along with Katia Bartels (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Sophia Cosgrove (Bli Bli, , AU/), took two wins to secure the a pair of doubles point for the Saints. Maier and Sendele competed in the No. 1 doubles match, claiming their win after scoring 8-3. Bartels and Cosgrove finished even stronger, ending with a score of 8-1.
Chloe Hasbargen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) and Annika Lundell (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) concluded their No. 3 doubles match just short, with a score of 6-8.
SIngles
Maier, Bartels, and Claire Rewertz (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) all achieved success in their singles matches. Sitting at the No. 1, 2, and 6 spots. The trio of Maier, Bartels, and Rewertz all finished their matches with scores of 6-2 and 6-1.
Cosgrove and Maria Sosa (Mazatenango, Guatemala/) were the final two Saints to claim victory in Fargo. Cosgrove, who competed in No. 3 singles, bested her Cobber opponent, scoring 6-3 and 6-2. M. Sosa, competing at No. 5 singles, also overcame her opposition, rounding out her match with scores of 6-3 and 6-1.
Sendele, who appeared in No. 4 singles, put her best foot forward. While the effort put forth by Sendele was impressive, it was not enough to achieve a sweep in singles. Sendele ended her match with scores of 1-6 and 3-6.
What's Next
The Saints (8-5, 2-3 MIAC) will host a doubleheader against the Cardinals (11-7, 0-0 MIAC) of Saint Mary's University on Saturday, April 5th. The women's match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
