Box Score Duluth, Minn. – The Saint Scholastica Women's tennis team hosted the Pipers of Hamline University today, February 15, in Virginia, Minn. Today's match ended with the Women taking a clean 9-0 sweep over the Pipers.
How it Happened
Doubles
Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium) and Paula Sendele (Icking, ,DE) started things off today for the Saints, scoring 8-4 in their set, collecting the Saints' first win.
Katia Bartels (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Sophia Cosgrove (Bli Bli, , AU) were up next. They finished their set, recording a score of 8-3, earning win number two for the Saints.
Next in line was Maria Sosa (Mazatenango, Guatemala/) and Mishell Benitez (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Tecnico Particular a Distancia José Martí). They finished, recording a set score of 8-4, securing the Saints' third win.
Singles
Maier kicked things off, this time in the singles competition. She bested her opponent in two sets, scoring 6-1, and 6-2.
Bartels was the second athlete for the Saints in the singles round. She scored 6-3, and 6-2 in two sets.
Benitez competed third for the Saints in the singles round. She too bested her opponent with scores of 6-1, and 7-5 after two sets.
Cosgrove was fourth for the Saints. She won her singles match, recording scores of 6-4, and 7-5 in two sets.
Sendele was second to last for the Saints in the singles competition. She overcame her opponent with scores of 6-1, and 6-1, finishing in two sets.
Sosa was the final athlete to compete for the Saints in singles play. She came out on top, recording scores of 7-5, and 6-4 in two sets.
What's Next
The Saints (2-1, 1-0 MIAC) will travel to Owatonna, Minn. to play the Eagles (1-1, 0-0) of the University of Northwestern-Saint Paul, on Saturday, February 22. Matches begin at 11 A.M.
