Saints Roll Past Northwestern With Strong Second Half Push, 71-55

SAINT PAUL, Minn. — St. Scholastica put together one of its most complete performances of the season on Tuesday night, using balanced scoring and timely defensive stands to earn a 71–55 road win over Northwestern-St. Paul.

The Saints (4-2) came out sharp offensively, shooting 42.9% in the opening half and knocking down five threes to build a 33–29 lead at the break. Davion Butler (South Phoenix, AZ/) set the tone early, burying a pair of triples and finishing the night with a game-high 23 points on an efficient 8-of-13 shooting, including 5-of-7 from deep.

St. Scholastica separated early in the second half with a 12–0 run fueled by defensive pressure and transition baskets. Tanner Thomson (Woodbury, MN/Stillwater HS) was at the center of that surge, scoring nine of his 14 points after halftime while adding three steals on the night. Drelyn Jones (Leyden, IL/Leyden HS) also provided a spark off the bench with five points and two assists, including a key three-pointer to extend the Saints' lead.

On the interior, Aaron Keykal (Princeton, MN/Princeton HS) anchored the glass, pulling down a team-high seven rebounds to go with 10 points and three steals. St. Scholastica's team defense shined throughout the night, generating nine steals and holding the Eagles to just 31% shooting in the second half.

The Saints also capitalized on mistakes, scoring 18 points off turnovers and keeping the Eagles at bay whenever momentum threatened to shift. With contributions from up and down the lineup and a strong second-half push, St. Scholastica closed out the victory convincingly, finishing with 10 made threes and 15 assists on 27 made field goals.

Up next, the Saints open MIAC play at Augsburg on Wednesday, December 3. Tip off in Minneapolis is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
