DULUTH, Minn. – The College of St. Scholastica women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to visiting Wisconsin-Superior on Wednesday afternoon at Harkins Field in a non-conference matchup that featured strong goalkeeping and plenty of back-and-forth play.
The Saints came out with intensity in the first half, creating several early opportunities and controlling stretches of possession. They fired multiple shots on goal and earned a handful of corners, but UWS goalkeeper Quinn Clark turned away every challenge to keep the home side off the board.
Despite St. Scholastica's attacking pressure, it was the Yellowjackets who struck first, finding the back of the net in the 10th minute to take a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
The second half continued much like the first, with the Saints pushing forward in search of an equalizer. Several quality looks were generated, and the Saints forced additional saves from Clark, who remained solid between the posts.
On the other end, freshman goalkeeper Rylee Senich (Cloquet, MN/Cloquet HS) put in a standout performance for the Saints, recording double-digit saves and making several key stops throughout the match to keep the game within reach.
Wisconsin-Superior managed to double their lead midway through the second half off a quick build-up and well-placed finish, putting the Saints in a deeper hole.
St. Scholastica continued to battle until the final whistle, creating chances in the closing minutes, but were unable to find the breakthrough.
The Saints, who move to 3-7-3 overall and remain 1-2-2 in league action, now look to regroup and build on their effort as they prepare for their next contest on Saturday, Oct. 11 — a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup against Concordia College (Minn.) during Homecoming Weekend. The game is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
