Women's Soccer Claims 2-0 Homecoming Victory over Cobbers

Duluth, Minn. – The Saint Scholastica Women's hockey team hosted the Cobbers of Concordia College in a MIAC Conference matchup today, October 11. This homecoming contest ended with the Saints claiming a 2-0 victory over the Cobbers

First Half

From the opening whistle, the Saints dictated the tempo, applying consistent offensive pressure. Early on, Peyton Mathiasen (St. Cloud, MN/St. Cloud Cathedral HS) tested the keeper with a shot on goal, followed by a series of dangerous chances from Julia Lewis (Maple Grove, MN/Maple Grove HS) and Anna Manion (Superior, WI/Superior HS) that kept Concordia on its heels.

The Saints earned multiple corner kicks in the first 20 minutes and continued to pepper the net — Tenley Voth (Farmington, MN/Farmington HS) fired two quality attempts, including one that forced a diving save. The breakthrough finally came in the 31st minute, when Anna Manion (Superior, WI/Superior HS) finished a perfectly built play assisted by Kaitlyn Sautter (Princeton, MN./Princeton HS) and Voth. The goal energized the home crowd and gave the Saints a 1–0 lead.

Goalkeeper Rylee Senich (Cloquet, MN/Cloquet HS) was steady when called upon, making a key stop late in the half to preserve the advantage as the Saints went into halftime up 1–0 after outshooting the Cobbers 12–3.

Second Half

The Saints picked up right where they left off, maintaining control of possession and creating numerous second-half opportunities. Voth remained active up front, seeing one shot hit the woodwork before finally breaking through in the 76th minute, when she found the back of the net off a sharp assist from Julia Lewis (Maple Grove, MN/Maple Grove HS) to make it 2–0.

From there, St. Scholastica managed the match with poise. The defense — anchored by Kenna Lammi (Esko, MN/Esko HS), Brooke Hedin (Rochester, MN/Century HS), and Michelle McGrath (Stillwater, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) — kept Concordia from generating any significant threats. Senich came up big again with a late save, securing her shutout victory as the Saints outshot the Cobbers 24–6 overall.

What's Next

The Saints (4-7-3, 2-2-2 MIAC) will travel south to Saint Paul, Minn. to play another MIAC Conference opponent, the Wildcats (10-2, 5-1 MIAC) of Saint Cathernine University on Tuesday, October 14. The game is scheduled for 4 P.M.
