DULUTH, Minn. – The College of St. Scholastica women's soccer team tied Hamline University in a scoreless draw in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Harkins Field.
The Saints were active offensively in the first half, outshooting the Pipers and creating multiple high-quality chances. Senior forward Kaitlyn Sautter (Princeton, MN./Princeton HS) came closest to opening the scoring in the 19th minute, rattling the right post with a powerful shot. Additional efforts from sophomore forward Julia Lewis (Maple Grove, MN/Maple Grove HS), sophomore midfielder Lily Rippie (Inver Grove Heights, MN/Rosemount HS), and sophomore midfielder Hannah Holm (Elk River, MN/Elk River HS) forced saves from Hamline goalkeeper Maddox Fergus, who turned away five shots in the match.
On the other end, the Saints' backline limited Hamline's chances, with freshman goalkeeper Rylee Senich (Cloquet, MN/Cloquet HS) coming up big in the second half. Senich recorded several crucial saves, including stops on Hamline's Ellie Nhean and Kailey Boettcher, preserving the clean sheet.
As the second half wore on, both sides continued to trade possession and push for a late breakthrough. Rippie had one of St. Scholastica's best second-half opportunities with a shot just wide in the 78th minute, while the Saints' defense held strong against a late flurry of Hamline corner kicks and blocked shots.
The Saints and Pipers combined for a total of 19 substitutions in the second half, with fresh legs injected on both sides in an effort to find the decisive moment. Despite the energy and attacking intent, neither side could find the back of the net.
With the draw, St. Scholastica moves to 3-6-3 overall and 1-2-2 in MIAC play. They'll remain at home on Wednesday, Oct. 8, to face University of Wisconsin-Superior in a non-conference contest at 2:00 p.m. on Harkins Field.
