Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Lights Out Performance by the Saints Leads Them to 8-0 Win

Ashland, Wis. - The St. Scholastica Men's Hockey team traveled to Northland College tonight for a nonconference game on the road. The Saints took the win by an extensive margine of 8-0. Ten different Saints recorded points with a notable performance from Evan Pahos (Parker, CO) who had two goals and two assists.

How it Happened
1st Period

The Saints began showing dominance early in the period as they took the first on-target shots, the Northland goaltender was forced to make two valiant saves to keep the Saints at bay.

Defense and goaltending were significant factors in the first 20 minutes, as both teams loaded the net with shots. But the Lumberjacks' luck would run out with just under eight minutes left in the period. Evan Pahos (Parker, CO) scored his fifth goal of the season with help from Isaac Suppin (Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada/George Elliot Secondary) and Braeden Holcomb (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids HS).

Northland made a big push to score following the goal, but the team's three consecutive shots all missed wide. The Saints took period one and outshot the Lumberjacks 11-9.

2nd Period
Once again, the Saints' game was emphasised on offensive pressure. Multiple scoring attempts came from successful faceoff wins. Throughout the period, the Saints won 16 of 22 faceoffs.

Near the midway point of the period, Northland took a penalty for holding. The Saints were unable to score on their four shots with the two-minute advantage. But quickly after Northland found themselves down a man, the Saints scored on the power play at 9:57. Pahos tallied his second of the game with assists from Nathan Adrian (Roseau, Minn./Roseau HS) and Jacob Seitz (Mountain Iron, Minn./Virginia HS).

The Lumberjacks began to crumble to the Saints ongoing attempts. CSS scored an even strength goal at 10:33 credited to Nick Lanigan (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS). With still half a period to play, the Saints would score one more at 14:04 from Brodie Girod (Clavet, SK, Canada/Clavet HS) with assists from Hunter on and Declan Young (Fergus Falls, Minn./Kennedy Secondary School).

The Saints outshot the Lumberjacks 17-10 and recorded one power play goal for a score of 4-0 headed into the final period.

3rd Period
CSS opened up with six shot attempts in the first five minutes and Northlands attempt at controlling the game phyically did not pay off, as they took another penalty. The Lumberjacks goaltender made multiple saves in the first 10 minutes of the period to hold the Saints off as long as they could.

At 10:33, Wyatt Wurst (Edina, MN) scored the fifth goal of the game, Holcomb and Pahos each recorded multi point games.

Northland took their only shot on goal of the period at 11:36 while short handed but were not able to prevent the Saints from scoring again. Hanson popped one in the back of the net to make it 6-0, two assists came from W. Wurst and Suppin.

The Saints would go on to score two more goals before the end of the game, an absolutely electric goal at 14:33 on the power play came from Seitz with additional points to Adrian and Pahos. The Eighth and final goal during the dominating win came at 18:13 on another power play from W. Wurst. The tic-tac-toe assists went to Suppin and B. Girod.
