Box Score Duluth, MN. - The College of St. Scholastica kicked off against the 2023 MIAC and National Champion team, St. Olaf College at Kenny Harkins Field today. St. Olaf was able to take the win 8-1.
How it Happened
1st Half
St. Olaf showed no remorse in the opening minutes of play, they scored two goals in the first four minutes of play. The first goal came at 2:24 and the second at 3:25. The Ole's led 2-0.
Ben Hallberg (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS) stood on his head to defend his net as the 2023 National Champions put continuous pressure on the goal.
At 11:35, Parker Chastey (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld HS) attempted to tally one for the Saints, but Chastey was denied within inches by the Ole's goalkeeper.
A quick turnaround for St. Olaf resulted in another goal for them at 14:16. 3-0 in favor of the Ole's.
Gabriel Marchesoni (Surrey, BC, CA) found a slick opportunity to add one to the board for the Saints, the gap was closed to two goals at the 15-minute mark.
This would not be the end of a goal-filled opening 20 minutes as St. Olaf popped in another one at 17:31.
A scramble infront of the Saints net resulted in a St. Olaf freekick, they were lucky enough to score again, as Shea Bechtel scored his hat trick goal. Ole's led 5-1.
The drama did not end there, as the Saints took a yellow card during an intense battle at the 18-yard line. And at 31:08, the Ole's scored again.
The half ended with a 6-1 score in favor of St. Olaf.
2nd Half
The Ole's let up in the second half, they worked on their communication and ball movement. They took multiple shot attempts that were off target.
At 51:20, the Ole's scored their seventh of the game.
Harry Cook (Fareham, England/Henry Cort Community College) and Marchesoni continued to fight back against the dominating Ole's, but their attempts were unsuccessful, being blocked by the Ole's defense.
With four minutes remaining, St. Olaf scored again off of a corner kick.
Hallberg made three more meraculous saves in the final 10 minutes of play. He held the Ole's off to two goals in the second half. St. Olaf took the win 8-1.

The Men's Soccer team will play two road games before returning to Kenny Harkins Field on Tuesday, October 8 for a 2 p.m. match. The Saints will play a non-conference match against the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
