Box Score Moorhead, MN. - The St. Scholastica Women's soccer team traveled West to the border to take on the Cobbers of Concordia College (MN) this afternoon in their first conference MIAC conference game.
Today's match ended in a 0-2 defeat for the Saints after 90 minutes of play. Despite the strong defensive effort and several key saves, the Cobbers found the back of the net twice in the first half.
How it Happened
1st Half
The Cobbers struck first with a goal at 14:24 making the game 0-1 early on. In search of a goal Ella Stritesky (Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS) hit the net at 19:34 from a corner kick by Lily Rippie but was shut down by the Cobbers goalkeeper and strong defense.
Seeking to tie it up, a header shot by Abigail Shrode (Hamilton, Mich./Hamilton HS) made its way to the net but was then saved epically by the Cobbers goalkeeper.
A team save by Shrode came at the 43:30 mark as the ball beamed over both team's heads, Shrode ran back and saved a goal from getting to the back of the net once again.
Another goal rang in for the Cobbers at 44:02 off of a corner kick, this left the Saints down by two.
2nd Half
After the early setback, the Saints regrouped and put up a strong fight with a lot of defensive plays to keep the 2nd half scoreless. The match saw plenty of back and forth play, but the Saints were unable to break through.
Understanding they were in a bad position, the Saint's defense took it a step further, while allowing more shots against, the Saints defense did not fall once in the second half.
Both teams remained scoreless in the second half. The Cobbers took the win with two first half goals.

The Saints (0-6-2, 0-1 MIAC) will return to their home turf on Saturday, September 21 at 1 p.m., hosting their second conference game against the Royals of Bethel University at Kenny Harkins Field.
