DULUTH, Minn. – Chloe Patrick (Brainerd, MN/Brainerd High School) made nine saves, including an early penalty kick stop, as the St. Scholastica women's soccer team fell 2-0 to St. Catherine University Saturday afternoon at Kenny Harkins Field.
The Saints moved to 4-7 overall and 1-4 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, while the Wildcats improved to 7-3-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the conference.
Patrick kept the match scoreless in the seventh minute, turning away Jaidyn Richter's penalty kick. St. Scholastica generated several opportunities shortly afterward, earning four corner kicks in a two-minute stretch. Hannah Holm (Elk River, MN/Elk River HS) and Anna Manion (Superior, WI/Superior HS) each had a shot cleared by a Wildcat defender, and Manion added two more shots on goal midway through the half.
The teams each recorded five first-half shots, but St. Catherine broke through at the 38:47 mark when Alyssa Hamlin scored off an assist from Ari Douvier to give the Wildcats a 1-0 halftime lead.
Patrick made two saves early in the second half before Emily Olson doubled St. Catherine's advantage in the 54th minute. The Saints continued to seek a response, with Lindsay Hunt (Brainerd, MN/Brainerd High School), Manion and Bailey Coole (Duluth, MN/) recording shots over the remainder of the match, but could not find the net.
Manion led St. Scholastica with four shots, including three on goal. Coole added two shots, while Holm and Hunt each recorded one. The Wildcats held a 13-8 advantage in shots and an 11-4 edge in shots on goal, while the Saints led 4-3 in corner kicks.
St. Scholastica returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 6, traveling to UW-Superior for a 7 p.m. match.
