SUPERIOR, Wis. – Lily Rippie (Inver Grove Heights, MN/Rosemount HS) and Julia Lewis (Maple Grove, MN/Maple Grove HS) each scored, and Chloe Patrick (Brainerd, MN/Brainerd High School) made 11 saves as the St. Scholastica women's soccer team defeated UW-Superior 2-0 Tuesday evening at SCCU Stadium, earning its first victory over the Yellowjackets since 2021.
The Saints snapped a five-match winless stretch against their Twin Ports rival, securing their first win in the series since a 4-0 victory on May 8, 2021. CSS improved to 5-7 overall, while UW-Superior fell to 5-5-2.
Patrick helped keep the match scoreless early, stopping all five shots she faced in the opening half. That included saves just 16 seconds apart in the 29th minute to deny Lilly Breitkreutz and Kylee Soens.
Rippie broke through at 34:14, scoring off assists from Bailey Coole (Duluth, MN/) and Zara McBroom (Rochester, MN/John Marshall HS) to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. St. Scholastica carried that advantage into halftime after outshooting the Yellowjackets 11-6.
CSS continued to press after the break, recording the first six shots of the second half. Lewis capped that stretch with a goal at 56:36 off an assist from Anna Manion (Superior, WI/Superior HS), doubling the Saints' lead.
Patrick added six saves in the second half to complete the shutout, including four over the final 17 minutes as the Yellowjackets pushed to get on the scoreboard.
St. Scholastica finished with a 24-17 advantage in shots, a 14-11 edge in shots on goal and a 5-3 margin in corner kicks. Rippie and Manion led the Saints with five shots apiece, while Lindsay Hunt (Brainerd, MN/Brainerd High School) put three of her four attempts on target. UW-Superior goalkeeper Cayley Larsen finished with 12 saves.
The Saints return to MIAC play Saturday, Oct. 10, traveling to St. Olaf for a 1 p.m. match in Northfield.
