Duluth, Minn. – The Saint Scholastica women's soccer team hosted the Norsemen of Luther College in the first of a two-game home stint.
Both teams battled it out until the final buzzer, but as the ball was cleared for the final time, and the whistle blew, the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
How it Happened
The Saints were the first to open things up for the Saints in today's match. Kaitlyn Sautter (Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS), coming off an assist from Julia Lewis (Maple Grove, MN), drilled the ball deep to the back of the net at the 22:34 mark, giving the Saints the first lead of the match. The game went both ways for most of the remaining half, with shots rang in by both teams, but with just 49 seconds remaining in the half, the Norsemen tied the game up at one-a-piece. The period came to an end with that same score. The Saints lagged behind the Norsemen by only two shots on net (5-7).
The Norsemen start things off early in the half, finding the back of the net just two minutes into the half. The Saints did not wait long to answer back, ringing in a goal of their own, a mere six minutes later, once again from Sautter. This goal was set up from excellent passing coming off of Francesca Kratochvill (Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS). The game once again went back and forth for the remaining 37 minutes, with both teams finding great opportunities on offense. This time around, the Saints outshot the Norsemen, 11-8, dominating in their own zone. The final whistle ended today's contest in a 2-2 draw.
